# Head & Neck The skull consists of 22 bones. The bones of the skull can be considered as two groups: those of the **cranium** *(which consist of the cranial roof and cranial base, dt. die das Gehirn umschließende Knochen des Schädeldachs)* and those of the **face** *(dt. die Knochen des Gesichts)*. The *cranial sutures* *(dt. Nähte)* are immovable joints between adjacent cranial bones. The only exception is the mandible *(dt. Unterkiefer)*.
